Fall Foliage Throw Quilt

Fall Foliage Throw Quilt – Gift Fox Quilts (2022)

With all of the striking foliage this fall, I’ve been really keyed into orange and purple. I’ve grown up in New England, so while foliage is nothing new to me, something about moving back to southern Maine after 8 years living in NYC made the colors of the leaves more resounding. Fall in New England is such a blip of a season — just a handful of weeks and it’s over. I wanted to capture that heightened color moment and movement in this large throw quilt using the Old Market Square pattern from The Blanket Statement.

These beautiful quilting cottons were bought at Central Stitch, a new fabric & notions shop in downtown Dover, NH. Backing fabric was sourced from Tumbleweed Quilts in West Barnstable, MA (one of my favorite quilt stores to visit in person). I created a piecey, black & white string binding, which I now want to put on nearly ever forthcoming Gift Fox Quilts project. As always, this quilt is lovingly handquilted — I used a rusty orange pearl cotton.

All that wonderful handquilted texture 🙂

Finished quilt size: 51″x67″
